Army West Point Wins A Defensive Battle 15-0 Over Navy

Going into the 2020 Army/Navy game the experts thought it would be a defensive battle and the team who could make a big play would win. Both teams got a big play however Army West Point (8-2) got a field goal off of their play while Navy was stopped four times from inside the two yard line. Those results helped the Black Knights defeat the Midshipmen 15-0. On the opening drive of the second half Navy quarterback Xavier Arline took off on a 52 yard run which gave Navy (3-7) the ball at the one. Fullback Nelson Smith was stopped on 4th down and that was Navy’s only trip inside the redzone.

Army West Point’s only touchdown was set up by a bad pitch from Arline to slotback CJ Williams. The Black Knights recovered the fumble on the Navy 15. A few plays later quarterback Tyhier Tyler scored from two yards out. The game featured 12 first downs combined. Neither team was good on third down as Army went 4-14 while Navy was 1 of 11. The total yards were 162-117 Army West Point. There was also 37 yards passing combined due to the defenses and a dense fog that was the other big factor in the game. Navy’s assistant coaches moved from the pressbox to the sideline for the second half because of visibility issues.

Navy had a chance to change momentum when Army West Point fumbled a pitch but the ball went out of bounds before it could be recovered. That seems to be a trend this season for the Mids. Navy will decide whether they will play in a bowl game or end the season at 3-7. Meanwhile Army hosts Air Force next Saturday with the winner getting the Commander In Chiefs Trophy. They will also play in the Independence Bowl on 12/26.
