Alex Cobb named Opening Day Starter for the Baltimore Orioles

March 28th, 2019 The Baltimore Orioles are set the start the season with Alex Cobb on the mound as they visit the rival New York Yankees.

This will be Alex Cobb’s first Opening Day start of his career. After being signed to a four year deal In March of 2018, he missed a majority of spring training last year and started out his season sub par.

Cobb looks to start this season where he left off last year, where he went 3-3 with a 2.56 ERA in his final 11 starts. Having a full spring training in 2019 is huge for Cobb, where he can enter the season in a better position than last year.

Alex Cobb as the Opening Day starter is a good choice. He is a veteran arm amongst a young group of pitchers for the Baltimore Orioles. Having Alex Cobb start the season on a strong note can benefit the younger arms behind him in the rotation.

Alex Cobb missed the entirety of the 2015 season with the Tampa Bay Rays due to Tommy John Surgery, and for one of the first times since the surgery he has said he feels he is back to his full potential. After a dismal start to the 2018 season, which ended with Cobb’s career worst ERA of 4.90 The 31 year old right hander looks to start this year differently. Being fully healthy and having control of all his pitches including his famous Split Change up is the key for Cobb entering the 2019 season.

Baltimore Oriole fans alike are excited to see Alex Cobb back in full swing following his much better second half last year, and you can catch his first start Thursday, March 28th in New York against the Yankees on Opening Day.
