5 Redskins To Watch: Preseason Week 2 vs Jets

Here are 5 Redskins to keep an eye on in the preseason home opener tonight against the New York Jets:

1. Alex Smith

Yes, my friends, the Alex Smith era is upon us, and tonight may be his first appearance with the Burgundy and Gold. Smith comes off of a contract year with the Kansas City Chiefs in which he threw for 4,042 yards and 26 touchdowns for a QBR of 104.7 while guiding the Chiefs to an AFC West title and a playoff appearance. While Smith may not have Tyreek Hill anymore, he does have Jordan Reed, Jamison Crowder, Josh Doctson, and Paul Richardson.

2. Ryan Kerrigan

Of course we have to include the birthday boy! Kerrigan was one of the few constants in a constantly injured and rotating defense. Kerrigan comes off of a 2017 season in which he racked up 13 sacks and terrorized offensive backfields all across the NFL. I am expecting big things this season from the Showstopper!

3. Tim Settle

Tim Settle had a stellar performance last week in New England, almost singlehandedly shutting down the middle of the field. Settle now faces a new challenge in the New York Jets, although that name does not exactly strike fear in the hearts of fans, much less players. I think it is time the Jets Settle Down.

4. Kapri Bibbs

After the injury to Derrius Guice, Jay Gruden stated that he remained comfortable with the Redskins’ in-house options, and Bibbs is giving Gruden all the more reason to be comfortable. Bibbs only had 4 carries last week in New England, but used his explosive speed to turn those into 48 yards to lead all rushers. Bibbs now faces a Jets defense that allowed just 49 yards on the ground last week in a 17-0 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Something has to give here, all I will say.

5. Cam Sims

Cam Sims showed great promise and excellent separation skills last week in New England, and his presence adds much needed depth to the wide receiving core. It is such a comfort knowing that this team has talent like Josh Doctson, Jamison Crowder, and Paul Richardson to start games and capable players like Maurice Harris and Cam Sims coming in behind them. All I hope is that Sims gets more than 2 targets tonight.
