Bordeaux defeats Montpellier 2-1 in third place game of EA Ligue 1 preseason tournament

Sunday was the final day of the EA Ligue 1 Games preseason tournament at Audi Field. Featuring four teams and four games, first up was the third place match between Montpellier and Bordeaux. Thanks to two goals from Nicolas de Preville in each half, Bordeaux came out on top 2-1.

In the seventh minute, Montpellier’s Mihailo Ristic pushed Enock Kwateng into the back after receiving a pass near the net. Nicolas de Preville converted the penalty kick to gvie Bordeaux a 1-0 lead.

In the first minute of stoppage time at the end of the first half, Montpellier was awarded a penalty kick after Otavio grabbed the jersey of Jordan Fierri and dragged him down. Teji Savanier converted on the free kick to tie the game at 1 heading into halftime.

Bordeaux outshot Montpellier in the first half 7-5 with three of those on target. Dimitry Bertaud made two saves for Montpellier.

Bordeaux took a 2-1 lead in the 54th minute with a strike from Preville for his second goal of the game. The kick came diagonally from just outside the penalty area and went just inside the left post past Bertaud.

That would be all Bordeaux needed to take third place in the weekend’s tournament. Gaetan Poussin made two saves to seal the win. Marseille and St Etienne will meet shortly at Audi Field for the EA Ligue 1 championship match.
