Three Takeaways from Week 1

The Baltimore Ravens blew the doors open against the Cincinnati Bengals, winning 20-0. Here are some takeaways from the dominate performance.

1.) This defense is poised to be the league’s best

The Ravens intercepted Andy Dalton 4 times today and recovered a fumble in today’s game. They also forced 5 sacks, but it seemed like they were in Dalton’s face every play. We knew this defense was going to be one of the best this season, but nobody expected this showing of dominance. Star receiver A.J Green was held to just 74 yards and the Bengals rushed for only 77 yards the whole game.

2.) The Ravens are now a run first team, and I love it

The Ravens rushed for 156 yards today with Terrence West leading the way rushing for 80 yards. Not only did they virtually use the whole third quarter rushing the ball, it appeared that Joe Flacco seemed a bit more comfortable behind center because of it.

3.) This team is as complete as the 2014 Ravens

I can’t be the only one that was surprised at the offense today. Yes Sam Koch punted 6 times today, but it didn’t look like Flacco missed all of preseason. Jeremy Maclin had an impressive 49 yard touchdown off of a slant route and Danny Woodhead looked like Flacco’s new favorite target before reinjuring his hamstring. Aside from Flacco’s one interception that Terrence West bobbled, this offense appears to be just good enough to compliment the elite defense just enough to make a playoff run. Let’s just hope this momentum stays for next Sunday’s home opener versus the Cleveland Browns.
