Len Bias to be Inducted into University of Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame

len-bias-t1_crop_650x440 The University of Maryland athletic department announced today that they have selected eight alumni to be introduced into the University of Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame including Maryland basketball legend Len Bias. Bias along with the seven other alumni’s will be officially inducted into the Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame on October 3rd.

The induction into the Maryland Hall of Fame is the highest athletic honor the university can bestow on a student-athlete and it seems only fitting it is given to the late great Len Bias.

Bias played for the Terps basketball program from 1982-1986 and when he left the University he finished as the all-time Maryland leader in 15 basketball categories. He led the Terps to four NCAA tournament bids along with the 1984 ACC Tournament title. He also was named to the first team All-America team along with the ACC Player of the Year in 1985 and 1986 as well as the ACC Athlete of the Year in 1986.

Bias would go onto but drafted with the second overall selection by the Boston Celtics in the 1986 draft. He however would have his life cut short just two nights after being drafted and would go onto as one of the most tragic losses not only the University of Maryland Athletic program has felt in their history but as well as sports history.

While Len Bias may be the player that never was in the NBA he was certainly the greatest Maryland Terp basketball player in their long history and now he will always be remember as that as he will now take is rightful place the Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame.
