Orioles select Ramirez, option Meek

The Baltimore Orioles have selected the contract of Ramon Ramirez

and optioned Evan Meek. The Orioles are short in the bullpen and Meek has been ineffective. Ramirez is a veteran pitcher and has been pitching well for triple-A Norfolk.

The Orioles have also reinstated Michael Almanzar from the disabled list and designated him for assignment. Almanzar was the Orioles Rule-five draft pick and will likely return to the Boston Red Sox.

Losing three of four from the Rays? Not good

Brian_Matusz_2009_(01)What happened to our momentum? We are talking about a team that has nearly 50 losses before the All-Star break. That’s the Tampa Bay Rays. The same team that we swept back in May.

So there was a doubleheader scheduled on Friday. And we did nothing with Rays pitcher, Alex Colome (suspended for 50 games). He was coming off a minor league start in which he allowed 9 runs in less than two frames.

What Does the Future Hold for Ryan Zimmerman?

Zimmerman Today marks a big day for the Washington Nationals as the future face of the franchise Bryce Harper is back in the lineup and will be playing left field however due to his placement in that position it displaces the current face of the franchise Ryan Zimmerman.

In tonight’s lineup things are going back to where everyone thought they be this season in that the core eight are back together in the same lineup for the first time since opening days. However with Harper being in left field in tonight’s game Ryan Zimmerman must move back to his old position of third base. Read more about What Does the Future Hold for Ryan Zimmerman?

Bryce Harper is Back and Ready to Take the League by Storm

harperbobble614c The Washington Nationals have activated Bryce Harper on the disabled list and expect him to start in tonight’s game, which coincidently is his bobblehead night. Harper has missed 57 games this season with a torn ligament in his left thumb that he got on a headfirst slide into third base on April 27th. This would reunite the Nationals core eight players in their lineup for the first time since opening day. Read more about Bryce Harper is Back and Ready to Take the League by Storm

Machado's suspension is upheld, begins tonight

The Baltimore Orioles got bad news regarding Manny Machado’s suspension as it was upheld.  Machado appealed the suspension hoping it would get reduced.  The five-game suspension was not reduced and Machado will begin serving it tonight.

The Orioles will likely have Ryan Flaherty playing third base during this time.  Jonathan Schoop can play third but he showed that he is very inexperienced there.

Dylan Bundy- The Killer of Single-A Baseball

Friday night, summer time, beautiful weather, baseball, a home game for the Short-Season Single-A Aberdeen Ironbirds, what more could a fan want? Oh yeah, did I mention the top pitching prospect in the Orioles organization was starting the game, which just so happened to be exactly one year after he had Tommy John Surgery? Friday night, that is what fans got; Dylan Bundy started for the Aberdeen Ironbirds and continued his domination of Low-A minor league baseball.

Friday night, Bundy threw five innings of three-hit shutout ball. Bundy also struck out seven and walked two batters. As mentioned, Friday’s date marked the one-year anniversary of Bundy having Tommy John Surgery but more importantly Friday was his third rehab start of the season. Needless to say, Bundy is right on schedule.

How deep is the safety position for the Redskins?

The Washington Redskins had a weak spot at safety last season. That may change with the addition of Ryan Clark the former Pittsburgh Steelers safety. Bringing in Clark was a smart decision for the Washington Redskins as he played all 16 games last year, over 100 tackles, and he’s a great leader for the Redskins younger safety’s.

The Redskins still have Tanard Jackson who was suspended last year. Jackson can still help the Redskins with his hard hitting ability and the great hands he has.

Orioles need to send Gonzalez to the pen

The Baltimore Orioles had yet another short outing by Miguel Gonzalez today, he only managed to go 4.2 innings.  Gonzalez has struggled with his consistency and not been aggressive this season.  Gonzalez being timid has caused him to throw a lot of balls and he is walking way too many batters.

Gonzalez is a good pitcher but has struggled to stay healthy and the Orioles know he needs more rest than other starting pitchers.  Having a six-man rotation does not work, pitchers like Chris Tillman and Kevin Gausman are sharper when they pitch on regular rest.  Read more about Orioles need to send Gonzalez to the pen
